Artist Statement
I create work that is intended to transport the viewer to a unknown space with balance, color and movement. I am influenced by nature, organic patterns as well as figures and fantasies that only appear in my imagination. I am also fascinated by the blending of colors and the fluidity and visual pleasure that come with observing the almost organic and natural flow of patterns. I want my works to be ambiguous, not obvious.
Slowly, colors, shapes, and textures begin to take form; little impulses of life move inexorably toward pictorial realization and identity. There is a stillness in the air, the feeling that anything is possible. And then there is a joyful moment of luminosity, when the brush touches the canvas and through paint and color, it receives form, purpose and direction.
“There is balance and harmony within the every chaos” this is the message I convey in my art. I prepare the materials I anticipate I will need, then, I like to clear my head and just start. An artist can transmit and transform creative energy into images of cultural significance as simply and directly as a lightningrod conducts electricity. And that it can be done often without plan or conscious control.
I am intrigued by various readings of my projects, often truly surprising and different from my own. It is always exciting to sell a work of art. I often wonder exactly where a particular painting ends up being hung and enjoyed.
